Craft Lesson 5

Mora: Yum! Mmm! Que Rico!

Topic: What Season Does it Grow in?

Discussion: Children should know and understand that crops are grown in different places and at different times due to the fact that the weather/climate/soil/etc. are a very important factor in the production process. Children should also be encouraged to grow their own "crops" so as to attain a deeper appreciation for the work and time this process takes.

How to Teach it:

Read the book. Have a discussion about the different foods that were talked about in the book. Ask the children about the different types of food that they can relate to. Describe the growing process and explain the different things that go into growing a crop. Also, explain the importance of location due to climate etc. Bring in magazines, other books, pictures, and even videos about growing crops. Have the children decide what crop can be grown here in West Texas and have them explain to you why. Then, at the end of the lesson, have the children actually grow this product and continue to care for it until it is ready to be picked. (Remember to take pictures and keep a journal of this process).
