Read Aloud Plan: Goodnight Moon!

Brown, Margaret: Goodnight Moon! (Buenas Noches Luna!)

Preliminary Thoughts: I chose this book as a read aloud, (and to discuss in class), because as a child, my mother always read the spanish version of this book to my sister and me before bed. This book is a smooth transition from a busy and heavy day to a good night's sleep. This book allows a child to better appreciate and accept bedtime because it helps them understand that every child has a bedtime. The illustrations in this book depict the room getting darker, the moon higher in the sky, and the time gets later, as the book comes to an end and bedtime gets closer. I really like this book because it's easy to read, it has a great rhyming sequence, it has great illustrations, and it reminds me of my childhood.

Final Results: I read this book to my three nephews and they seemed to really enjoy it. They were already familiar with the english version, but they hadn't been exposed to the spanish version so they were in awe! They wanted to try to read it themselves. They also made connections between the english words/items to the spanish. It was a pretty impressive experience seeing how they translated the words and then even read some of the book on their own. (The two older boys are 6 and 8 years old). The youngest, who is only 3 years old, sat back and watched his brothers and then mimicked them as well. This version of the book now belongs to their collection.
